AlterECO was founded in 1997 upon a mission statement that had evolved over a period of years, as founder Thom Harrison found "enlightenment" in the then fledgling concepts of ecological design, green building and conscious business practices that measure success in terms of the "triple bottom line" (People, Planet & Profit).
Now celebrating our 11th year of providing ecological design alternatives, we see this adventure as just beginning. At the heart
of our work is a sincere desire and commitment
to create products that are--to our customers--genuinely practical, beautiful and meaningful
and--to the earth--gentle and increasingly sustainable.
Still a small and organically--yet vibrantly--growing enterprise, AlterECO has hit its stride now that bamboo has gone mainstream as a viable building material in its new modern form. AlterECO is small by choice--the choice to serve the local San Francisco Bay Area and help encourage the concept of local living economies.
